The Heavens! Webring links together domains that serve to express their owner's interests, particularly in anime or manga.  The ring was conceived and started by Ivy of ice-queen.net.  As far as I can tell, Ivy hasn't been back to ice-queen.net for several years.  The last update on her content I could find was November 2001, and the newest for one of her hostees was 2002.  I loved being part of the ring, and I was terribly disappointed that new members weren't being approved.  In November 2004 I applied to adopt the ring at ringsurf.com, and after verifying that the ring had been abandoned, their administrator approved the changed of ownership.  At the time I adopted the ring, there were 81 approved members, and 85 members in the queue.  After checking all websites, deleting those that were dead, approving those that were correct in the queue, and deleting those that didn't have the code, there were 28 members (19 original and 9 newly approved), and 11 in the queue (original members without code).  That's quite a lot of dead weight to be cut.  I hope the ring can be revived and revitalized once again!  Spread the word, and invite others to join!

Checking in

Posted 15/Oct/2008. Filed under Heavens! WebRing.

Well, I’m still around, and this little note should let you know that this site is not abandoned. However, I am considering shutting down the ring since ringsurf has changed its functionality—so its not actually a ring code any more. Over winter break I’ll try to sort it out.

These rules will attempt to stay true to the spirit of Ivy's original idea, but will clarify and expand what I think is needed.
  1. You must own a domain to join.  This ring is not for free domains, sub-domains, hosted sites, or collectives hosted on free servers.  Those are great and necessary services, but there are rings especially for those ^_^.
  2. Your domain must contain some content related to anime or manga.  This could be a single character shrine, a manga image gallery, or a blog where you review the anime you are currently watching.  Original ring members will be grandfathered in, if their interests have changed but they still wish to remain as members.
  3. You must download the graphic to your own server, and replace the appropriate part of the code with it's link.  No direct linking - that's bandwidth theft.  Thanks!
  4. You may edit the order or representative symbols for the code, but you must have the following commands appropriately linked:  previous, next, random, list, and home.
  5. You must have the code up when I check.  In addition, you MUST complete the field that tells me exactly where the code is.  People hide the code really deep and in some hard to find places sometimes.  If I can't find it, you will unfortunately not be approved.
  6. You should follow good practice in layout and design.  If I can't navigate your site, if there are coding errors that make the content unviewable, or if there are lots of broken links I will not be able to approve your membership.
  7. This ring is not for sites that include hate, hentai, or other adult-themed content.  Content should be safe and legal for visitors under 18 years of age.

Here are the graphics for use in the ring code.  You should download the appropriate code to your own server, and modify the ring code to include that path. Right click and choose "save as."

Please click HERE to open a new window with the ringsurf join form in it.  You will see another copy of the rules, and the fields that need to be completed.  After hitting the submit button, you will receive the code.  Please take note of your site ID #, as you will need it to login and change your information.  Please change the path for the graphic so that it points to where you have uploaded it onto your server.

Please click HERE to open a new window with the ringsurf members list in it.

It's possible to get a little piece of heaven on earth!  In keeping with Ivy's original concept, anyone can adopt a piece of heaven.  If you are a hostee, or have a site on a free server, but have aspirations of owning your own domain, consider adopting a feather as inspiration.  Please upload a feather image below to your own server, and link it back here.

According to Ivy of ice-queen.net, "When you get a domain name you log-in, but you can't go a directory higher, right? Well that's because you're on the top-level, there is no higher only lower. Heavens! represents that."

**Credit for the ring concept and creation goes to Ivy of ice-queen.net who started the ring on September 2, 2000.  Ivy also deserves credit for the feather adoption graphics.  If you are Ivy, and have any comments, or would like me to remove the graphics you created, please contact me.

The ring graphic feathers were credited by Ivy to "Drum" of onigami.net.  I'm not sure if the domain is still under that same owner, but if so, the work is all hers!
